I Spied With My Bookish Eye- Two Books, Four Different Covers

Recently at the bookstore…

Sometimes I believe it would be better to put a bed in a corner in my favorite bookstore. You know, because I seem to be there more often than at home these days. I have a legit reason to be there, though. I´m looking for book covers ( and books to buy ). Some gems are on display while other treasures are buried in dark corners. Those are the ones I´m looking for.

And boy, was I successful this time. So much so that I found different covers for the same books on the same shelves.

Pretty neat, huh?

The Farm At The Edge Of The World by author Sarah Vaughan is a Historical Fiction that´s set in 1944 and the present day. One of those time leap stories ( so I´ve been told ).

If you take a look on Amazon.com you´ll notice that there are, indeed, two different covers for this book. One is the cover for the Hardcover version and the other for the paperback.

At my preferred bookstore, though, both cover images cover paperbacks. Not really uncommon in the book world. It´s nothing but amusing to see when looking for a book.

I spotted the darker cover first and minutes later the same book with the lighter cover. You can imagine the look on my face as I double triple checked the title and author. Personally, I like the darker cover more as I feel it fits the book description better. I haven´t read this book but I´ve heard many great things about The Farm At The Edge Of The World.

Do I find the covers eye-catchy? Yes and no. They both have a certain appeal but for me- I think the darker one stands out more. It´s the contrast of dark on the upper half and the light on the bottom part that makes this eye-catchy for me. The lighter, illustrated image doesn´t have too many stark contrasts except for the splotches of white and the font.

Would I buy either of these books? The darker cover edition for sure.

`One Of Us Is Lying` by author Karen M. McManus… I´ve been meaning to buy this one for some time but unfortunately- I haven´t had the extra cash to spare.

The English version ( on the right ) was on display while the German version ( on the left ) was buried underneath other bestsellers. Kind of sad because I believe both covers are worth putting on display.

Won´t you look at these beauties!

To be honest- I love both covers. I love the German edition because it´s simple yet bold ( in color and image ) and I love the English edition because it´s similar to the German edition only more exciting. I love the cut-out faces! I love that both covers actually look like the genre they´re written in- YA.

Personally, I´d love to own the German cover edition but read the English version ( my German reading skills are questionable, to say the least ).

Are the covers eye-catchy? Without a doubt! Both have that great color contrast. You see everything more or less right away without being overwhelmed. White, subdued orange fonts and easy to identify images. Both covers are easy on the eye and either would look stunning in a private book collection.

If all else fails I´m going to add One Of Us Is Lying to my already endless Christmas list.

Let´s talk: What do you think about these covers? Which would you buy? Which do you already have? Would you buy these books based on these covers? Let me know in the comments below.

Thanks for popping in for another book cover analysis. I hope you enjoyed ❤
