Book Review: Tattered ( Lark Cove #1 ) – Devney Perry

synopsis single

Thea Landry has always known her place in modern-day society. It’s somewhere just above the trash can her mother dumped her in as a newborn but below the class where much comes easy. With her tattered shoes and bargain-bin clothes, her life has never been full of glamour.

So when a rich and charismatic man takes interest, she doesn’t fool herself into thinking their encounter is anything more than a one-night stand. Months later, she’s kicking herself for not getting his phone number. Or his last name. She’s given up hope of seeing him ever again.

Until one day, years later, Logan Kendrick waltzes into her life once more and turns everything she’s built upside down. This time around, she won’t make the same mistake. She’s going to fight to keep him in her life—not for herself.

But for their daughter.

My Thoughts 2

I found myself a new favorite author!

Romantic, romantic and romantic. This book is the definition of romance.

Thea meets a hot guy in a bar. Ends up with more than she bargained for and SNAP, they meet again after 6 years. Thea and the hot stud, Logan, are forced together by fate and struggle to find a way to create a new future. Tattered

Did I say that I loved `Tattered`by Devney Perry? Because, I do. I love how relatable the story is ( because I´ve seen it happen more often than I´d like to admit ), I love how lovable the characters are, and above all… I loved how the characters tried.

Thea never had an easy life. Logan never needed to ask for anything. Both characters couldn´t have been more opposite from one another. Different lives, different worlds. And still… for the sake of their daughter ( 6 years unknown to Logan ) they made the impossible possible. Or, at least, they did everything in their power to make it happen.

`Tattered` is a relationship romance, built on a one night stand and sky rockets from there on. The  dual POVs helped heaps in understanding both sides, making it hard for a reader to see any major faults in character choices.

I felt for Thea. I understood Logan. I wanted both to get what they wanted. I desperately needed to see those two find their happily ever after, simply because they were worth it.

Things I fully appreciated

  • The writing. The author has a soothing writing style that makes a reader crave more.
  • Character development was spot on!
  • Story unravelled at a perfect pace.
  • The struggle.

Things I could have lived without

  • Logan´s family get-together
  • The threat.

While I do find this to be a perfect read ( for myself ) I also found myself thinking about certain events that occurred in the story and if it would´ve been better if the author had left those events out. In my humble opinion- The story on it´s own without the added threat and without Logan´s family introduction scene, would have been just as powerful. I didn´t care much for said threat and I certainly found the Kendrick family a tad over the top.

But that´s just me and my picky self talking. I´m sure others will appreciate the dramatic scenes I could have lived without.

Would I recommend this book? Definitely! This is my second Devney Perry read and I couldn´t be happier. It´s a romance. What´s not to love about a wonderful romance?

Would I reread this book? Sure! I´ll probably give it a reread before I start the second book in the Lark Cove series.

The Cover – 4 stars ( It´s pretty. Subtle and just plain pretty.)

The Story- 4 stars ( A wonderful romance I can´t complain about, aside from the mentioned above.)

The Characters – 5 stars ( Oh, how my heart bled for the MCs. So much love for every character in this book. ❤ )

My emotional state after finishing this read – So content. So excited to discover more Devney Perry treasures.

Review- A Four Letter Word by Michelle Lee

Book Description

Zoey has had a crush on Evan since they first met in high school, but has never acted on those feelings. She has always felt she wasn’t Evan’s type and their friendship means too much to her to jeopardize. At a Halloween party, Zoey meets Griffin, something Evan isn’t too happy about. Zoey and Griffin’s budding relationship grows into something Zoey never thought she would find, that four letter word, love. When she is ready to marry Griffin, Evan decides to let his true feelings be known. Ultimately, Zoey has to decide, marry the one the currently loves, or be with the one she’s always loved.

My Thoughts

It´s another wonderful classic romance! Sweet, cute, romantic… It´s everything I could ever hope for in a light and quick read.

After all the new releases I´ve been reading I felt it was time to dive deeper in my TBR list and see what I had on that evil neverending list.

I remember buying this book. I even remember admiring the cover. What I can´t remember is why I haven´t read it right away. * hangs head in shame * `A Four Letter Word´ by Michelle Lee is so darn cute. Simple and predictable yet the story sets off all the right emotional triggers.

A total heartwarming lovestory.

It´s as if the author wanted the romance genre to go back to the roots. Keep it normal, keep it realistic. Keep readers on their toes. Readers will most likely be able to relate to the story and / or the characters more because of how normal everything felt. Because, believe it or not… life isn´t always about abuse, drugs, sex, hot CEOs and what not.

There actually isn´t much to tell about the story because the book description says it all. Still- The ultimate question is:

Will Zoey marry the one she currently loves or will she be with the one she´s always loved?

Read the story and find out for yourselves. * wink *

Reading about the characters and what they went through to find their own happiness was a joy. I´d like to call Evan and Zoey´s friendship / relationship „ old school“ because you knew they were friends….and you also knew there was more. A blind person could have easily seen that they were meant for each other, but the characters weren´t so sure themselves. * sigh * That was the major dilemma. Even Zoey and Griffin were as normal as couples come. So what was Zoey´s issue? Oh yes. Her „What if´s“.

The end was fantastic. I saw that one coming but I still loved it. It was cool to see that somehow history did repeat itself in one way or another. Fab ending!
All in all a well told story for every romance lover. `A Four Letter Word` is fully recommendable.

The Cover – 5 stars ( Love it. )

The Story – 4 stars ( The story isn´t anything new, but it´s told in a great way.)

The Characters – 4 stars ( I was able to relate to Zoey and her problems. I was able to see some of my real life friends in other characters. I liked that alot but it also scared me a little. Lol.)

My emotional state after finishing this read- Totally happy.

I´m giving `A Four Letter Word`, by Michelle Lee, 4 out of 5 romantic stars
