I just needed to believe we weren’t unrepairable.”

Don’t miss the explosive conclusion to this unforgettable thriller by Jewel E. Ann, bestselling author of The Transcend Series.

Screw whatever I said in my review for book #1, The Life That Mattered by author Jewel E. Ann. All confusion and mixed feelings vanished after having read The Life You Stole, book #2 from The Life Series.

Holy shitcakes… this was an intense read. So much drama, so much emotional pain, so many crippling highs and lows. I wanted it all to end but the bookish sadist in me wanted more!

There was only one thing that bothered me. Something this story could´ve lived without. The supernatural bit. Have you ever seen the movie 1996 movie Phenomenon? The one with John Travolta? This story is similar to the movie only with a focus on romance and friendship ( and lies, heartbreak, betrayal, money, death, sex, snow, power, etc ).

I like to think the story would´ve been perfectly fine without the supernatural bit. It certainly would´ve been just as painfully emotional. But other than that, I can´t complain. I´ve been through bookish hell and back with this read. That´s exactly what I want when reading a book.

Would I recommend this book? Yes! I think, even if I thought book #1 was slow, it was the perfect build up for what happened in bok #2. A necessary calm before the storm, if you will. A reader gets a slow-burn romantic start with a shit – has – properly – hit – the – fan romantic ending. It´s a romance, y´all.

Would I reread this book? I´ll definitely reread bits of book #2 in the near future just to torture myself a little.

The Cover:  3 Stars – Still not my cup of tea. At least it matches the cover of book #1.

The Story:  4 Stars – A little over the top but still enjoyable. Certain scenes are very intense. Disliked the supernatural addition.

The Characters:  5 Stars – * standing ovation * Great character development. Loved Evelyn and Lila.

My emotional state after finishing this read: So pooped that I need a large cocktail.

Book Review: The Life That Mattered ( Book #1 ) – Jewel E. Ann

Sex isn’t love.
Love isn’t sex.
And friendship is neither.

The son of a French Olympic skier and a Malaysian fashion designer, Ronin Alexander has lived the life of a nomad, traveling the world to find his next adventure.

Life takes a dramatic turn when he meets Evelyn, a beautiful scientist who owns a bath shop in Aspen, Colorado. They defy all the rules of relationships, falling hard and quickly in love.

Their world intertwines with Evelyn’s two best friends, the Governor and his soon-to-be wife. The four become close—very close.
When tragedy strikes, things from their pasts are unveiled—unimaginable truths and the grim realization that life will never be the same.

Jewel E. Ann steps into another dimension with this mind-bending thriller, a provocative story that pushes boundaries and tests the true meaning of love.

I’m in this weird place where I’m not sure if I liked what I read or not.  The Life That Mattered ( The Life Series #1 ) by Jewel E. Ann was definitely an interesting read but it didn´t grab my attention the way I hoped it would.

A slow-burn romance with an unknown promise

The feeling you get when someone promises you a basket full of chocolates but you never get it and you end up questioning if there ever was a basket with chocolates, to begin with? That´s how this story felt for me. I kept waiting for something to happen but was left with a feeling that nothing ever would…. until the ugly cliffhanger happened.

Still, I´m convinced this story has something great to offer. I might not know what but I can sense something big happening in book 2, which is why I´m going to continue with the story.

The Cover:  3 Stars – Not my cup of tea. The blue with the red font irritates me a little.

The Story:  3 Stars –  The details were appreciated but still… things dragged.

The Characters:  3 Stars – I loved Evelyn and found Ronin a tad transparent.

My emotional state after finishing this read:  Mixed feelings with a dash of hope that book 2 will knock me out of my socks.
