Thank The Books It´s Friday

I´m telling you – All I´ve done since Wednesday was sing Friday I´m In Love from the Cure. Not that Friday´s have any emotional meaning anymore these days but… I needed a Friday this week. And now it´s Friday.

I´d rather not bore you to death with what´s been going on in my personal life. I have nothing to share other than the hardships of homeschooling and how I´m desperately trying to ignore social media. If I received a dime for every Covid – 19 conspiracy post I´ve seen I´d be rich by now. Or posts from people who virtually protest against face masks.

It´s been very difficult for me not to leave a comment on these genius posts published by some of the world´s unskilled thinkers.

Then the news about Stephanie Meyer´s Midnight Sun ( Twilight #5 ) finally reached my shores.

Really? The author already tried beating a dead horse before with her Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined 10th-year anniversary release. Is she trying to make sure the poor bastard stays dead? Because it can´t die twice. Neither can the story make a comeback twice. Especially when it´s the same story told from a different point of view. It´s clear the author is trying to milk the (equally dead) cash cow.

I know I shouldn´t think poorly of authors trying to make a buck but can anyone fault me for thinking this way when seeing this?

$ 14 .99 for a Kindle copy? Is the secret of life in there or are readers just getting Edward´s POV? Rumor had it some many moons ago that this story had been leaked and that pissed the author off so bad that she refused to ever publish it. Talk about a mind change. This is the most ridiculous thing I´ve seen in ages. I think you´d have to be a die-hard fan of the books to spend that much money on a Kindle copy. Twilight Rant Over.

So, what else is new? I´ve ruined two shirts while doing some more bookish art recreations. Note to myself ( and everyone else ): Black color should be applied with a full bodysuit. The post that goes with this experience will be published very soon.

Anything else? Not really. Just lots of personal stuff that everyone else is probably doing as well. Gardening, spring cleaning, some more spring cleaning, staring holes in the air, wondering when my hands started looking old, and reading.

Oh yes, I almost forgot the most important part of this post: The books I´ve read.

I managed to break my personal reading record. 4 books this week. Granted, the longest book only had 232 pages but that´s not the point. I started and finished 4 books. Am I proud? You bet! If this lockdown continues I´m probably going to end up setting myself some quirky reading challenges. Something like How many 250 page novels can I read in a week? How many short stories can I read? How many books can I skim without missing too much of the plot?

I think it´s best to end here before I start getting any more weird ideas.

But before I go I´d like to know:

What are your thoughts on the Twilight addition? Are you excited or are you wishing the author would just move on to something new? What´s been your highlight this week? Let me know in the comments below. I´d love to chat. ❤

Wishing each and every book lover a wonderful weekend filled with lots of reading and relaxing.

Thank The Books It´s Friday

Hello and welcome back

to

Thank The Books It´s Friday!

Boy, what a week it´s been, huh? Makes me really want to sit back and drink a whole bottle of wine alone and just think about how peaceful life is… offline. Let´s bring out the Friday squirrel to celebrate the weekend, shall we?

And while we´re at it, let´s hope no author on Twitter decides to make ungrateful statements for the next… I don´t know… 5 – 20 years? Possibly never again?

I´m sure you´ve seen the recent book Twitter shit-show created by the ( to me very unknown ) author Elizabeth Bear.

A kind reminder to people who tag authors in book reviews. How thoughtful. How ballsy. How generally rude.

Of course, I disagree on so many levels with this statement. The whole tweet is just a load of bullshit. It´s generalized and targets everyone in the book community. It´s also not specific enough. Are we talking all review posts or just the negative ones? I haven´t learned the art of sniffing out the specifics yet so it would´ve been slightly helpful if the author had been more clear instead of presenting a limited and highly unprofessional tweet.

This tweet caused quite a bit of a stir in the book-Twitter community. Book bloggers, authors, and even readers stepped forward to voice their disapproval. I can´t blame them. The tweet was a virtual slap in the face. Oh, speaking of face slaps… After having followed the thread for some time I spotted something even more disappointing.

Neil Gaiman, too?! Bitch, that burned.

This is, without a doubt, a touchy subject. It shouldn´t be, though. For all I know, the majority of the book blog community isn´t fishing for praises, compliments or even acknowledgment when tagging authors in positive review posts. Tags aren´t meant to cripple authors emotionally or piss them off.

I mean- sure. Authors have the right to voice their opinions. Go ahead and do your worst. But if that means pissing off a huge chunk of the book community then I´d say that´s not the way to win new readers or keep the ones that´ve been loyal ( indirectly waving at you, Neil Gaiman ).

A piece of advice for Elizabeth Bear: Try not to speak for all authors next time. Also-socializing is wonderful but not mandatory. A simple mention in your bio would´ve prevented a whole lot of backlash.

Uugh. See? A royal shit-show. People, we´re not even halfway through February and there´s already drama. I recently made a bet with a fellow book blogger on when the next literary shit will hit the fan… My bets were on late Spring, early Summer. * sigh *

So what else is new?

Oh! I´d like to give a loud Fuck you, very much to my daughter´s friend and their mom for giving me and the kids Scarlet fever. I´m on day 4 with a temp of 39°. I feel like I can fry eggs on my skin at this point. To be honest- I never thought adults could catch the Scarlet fever. I was wrong. I was also wrong to think this would pass quickly. As of now, I´m sofa bound with nothing to do but snooze off a few times during the day from being so exhausted and suffering during the night. Yes, dear friend´s mom… I hate you with a passion.

I decided to go online book shopping tomorrow. Deep down I know it´s just frustration shopping but at this point- I don´t give a rats ass.  * purposefully ignoring the stack of unread books next to me *

That´s about it for this week, my dear bookish Padawans. I hope you didn´t suffer too much through this minor aggressive post. My apologies. I´m not feeling so hot. I´m actually burning!

Before I go: Did you watch the Twitter show? What are your thoughts on the author´s tweet? Should authors make such demands? Let me know in the comments below. I´d love to chat ❤

Sending out lots of health and great positive vibes!

Enjoy your weekend.

Much bookish love,

Thank The Books It´s Friday

Helloooo * insert sing-song voice*.

Welcome to another magnificent Friday. I hope you all are ready to kick back and relax because… you all deserve it.

I decided that this week´s weekend kick-off is going to be a little different. Sit tight, buckle up, my dear book-loving gang… My beloved followers and avid commenters. I´m about to unload a bunch of sap.

At first, I thought about baking you a cake. But then I remembered how apocalyptic my cake baking skills are ( I can screw up a Betty Crocker cake mix because I´m THAT special ). This is why I bought brownies. So, these are for you. A thank you for sticking around for so long and letting me torture you with some of my odd posts.

brownies

Then I thought of other things that could show my appreciation. Things I would randomly give people who are nothing but kind, funny and supportive- Such as the dedicated bunch who follow me and show me through the comments that my posts aren´t for nothing. Thank YOU!

flowers

But what good are brownies when I´m the only one eating them? I can´t share my brownies with you. What good are flowers when you all aren´t able to accept them properly?

It dawned on me that there´s nothing I could give you as a token of my appreciation for what you´ve given me. Which is sad. The internet and its ability to let us all communicate while we´re all scattered across the world is a blessing. But it does have one major downside – We´re all still worlds apart. This makes it harder for me to invite everyone over for a BBQ or meet for drinks. I´d like to return the love I´ve received in some form but… I can´t. Not really. So, you´ll have to do with a simple Thank You.

I know. That´s nothing special, either. But it´s all I have. Just my fat fingers holding up a sign. * sigh *

Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤ Your comments made me smile. All your likes don´t go unnoticed and they´re much appreciated. ❤

I haven´t included a read-worthy About Me yet * shamefully hiding face *. Although- I´ll probably update my About Me by the time you all see this, so… You´re welcome to take a look at either. ❤

Puuh. I guess that´s it.

Feel hugged. Feel loved. Know that you’ve made an impact. 💜

Thank The Books It´s Friday

Hola, bookish family.

Guess what? It´s Friday…

squirrel fuck

Thank fuck, indeed. It´s been a busy one, I can tell ya that much. Reading. Thinking. Blogging. It´s no wonder I´m in desperate need of all those cocktails I pictured myself drinking throughout the week.

But nonetheless- I had a great time roaming the internet and reading all sorts of book-related blog posts ( more about that next week ).

Since it´s Friday I thought we´d cast all the negative shit from the book community aside and shift our focus on what´s really important: Enjoying a few days off.

My grand plan is: To have no plans for the weekend. Maybe I´ll do a little reading, relaxing and let my paper white skin fry in the June heat or maybe I´ll do none of that and just sit outside and listen to my neighbors threaten each other with the cops again.

As long as I have a cocktail to slurp then I don´t really care.

As for my reading options…

I´m going to play a round of `Eenie, Meenie, Miney, mo` with a stack of unread books. Hopefully, that´ll help me pick my next read ( because flipping a coin wasn´t creative enough for me ). I have 3 romances and 3 fantasies waiting for my attention.

sbc

Has anyone already read any of these? Are they any good? Make sure to drop me a line in the comments. I´d love to know what your thoughts are ( if you´ve read these, of course ).

Speaking of books. Remember my ramblings on book covers? Weeeell, I finally gave myself that much needed last kick and came up with a concept and even put it into action. Yay for me! One that hopefully works. What exactly my new concept is will be revealed next Thursday, so stay tuned folks. ❤  ( a little tip: One look at my blog menu will tell you everything )

I guess that´s pretty much it for this week. Lots of everything and nothing has happened. The usual, I´d say. And with that, I´ll leave you and wish you all a wonderful few days off.

Before I leave:

What are your plans for the weekend? Do you have anything special planned? Or will it be another wonderful time doing absolutely nothing? Let me know so I can envy you.

Stay safe. Have a blast. Feel hugged.

People. PEOPLE! You will not believe what a week I´ve had. More the reason to welcome Mr. Thank Fuck squirrel.

squirrel fuck

It´s friday. A day to sit back and relax. Or in my case- sit back and make plans.

Yes. Aside from the virtual book blog drama that has decided to involve me without me knowing I took it upon myself to book a spontaneous mini vacation. 4 days London, baby! I just have 1 more week to go before Easter break for the kids begins and we´re off. I´m taking the family with me. Hubby, kids…. We´re all going and I am SO looking forward to some much needed time off from my surroundings. And the book shopping! Lord have mercy, I´m gonna be in a financial mess when I get home.

If you happen to see a short blonde american with a loud voice in a Waterstones then feel free to approach me. I might scream because I´m super jumpy and a natural chicken shit but that´ll pass. 🙂 I´ll buy you a coffee and make up for it. 🙂

What I´m looking forward to most is meeting up with my bestie Lindsey also known as the award winning author of Hedoschism. It´ll be so good to see her in person again and give her ( and the family ) a huge hug. ❤

As for the book blogging. I´ve mentioned above that my week has been going fairly well until I heard about what´s being said about my blog posts behind my back.

Something as banal as my previous post has evoked strong feelings from some people. I´m not sure I have enough energy to care ( that´s not true. I have a post about that topic already in the works ). Let´s just say that it´s beyond me why anyone would feel offended by my personal experiences. These people must love me to bits for keeping me on their radars or they hate me and have made me their target. Did I mention I´m going on a vacation? I did? Okay, I´ll just remind you again.

So yes. It´s been an eventful week.

As for the bookish part:

I´ve had an equally successful week. But having a look at some other blogs I feel like I´ve achieved nothing at all. The 3 books I´ve managed to read in April are nothing compared to what others have read. I feel major book envy right now. Still, I´m holding in there.

As of late I´ve managed to start and finish ( yes, I know. It´s weird I managed to do both ) the following:

The Silver Swan ( Elite Kings Club #1 ) – Amo Jones

Sparrow – L.J. Shen

Before We Were Strangers – Renée Carlino

Reviews for these gems will be up and about very soon so keep your eyes open.

Thankfully, the month isn´t over yet and I have more than enough time to read some other long forgotten masterpieces that have been collecting dust on my bookshelves.

Let´s completely ignore the ebook collection that´s growing faster than the tomato seeds I just planted.

That´s about it for this week.

Other than spending time checking my travel check lists there will be loads of Netflix while imitating lazy cats. Drum roll for the cat gif parade!

Me on a Friday

Me on Saturday

Me on Sunday

You´re very welcome. So, as you can see, my life is boring.

What are your plans for the weekend? What books will you be reading / finishing? Let me know in the comments below so I can envy you! ❤ Let me be a part of your glorious, eventful life.

Have a safe weekend, everyone. Feel hugged and loved. Share the book love.
