Books, Baths & Boobs- Recreating Bookstagram Images: Part 6

Hello again. Welcome to Part 6 of this wonderfully epic Bookstagram experiment of mine: The title says Books, Baths & Boobs- Recreating Bookstagram Images. At this point, I´d love nothing more than to change the title into:

`My Neverending Failing Bookstagram Experiment”

After having recreated various popular Bookstagram images such as, Books & Coffee, Books & Bubble BathBooks & OutdoorsBooks & BedsBookish Art

It´s time to talk about Bookstagrammers’ next favorite feature theme: Books & Deco/Props.

Bookstagrammers love their props.

Whether it´s candles, bookmarks, plastic flowers, deco alphabet, food, Funko pop figures, chain of lights, or other items… You´ll most likely see these in some Bookstagram features.

What´s great about this is: There´s no way to do this Book & Deco/Props theme wrong. You just decorate your book with whatever you think is worth using, right? Let´s take this Bookstagram image as an example by @cozybibliophilie

It´s not often I come across a Bookstagram account that has one beautiful picture after another. @cozybibliophilie has a stunning collection of features with props, which is why I chose one of her creations to recreate. Candles, plastic flowers, faux fur, a deco band, and a book. Voila! I can do that, too.

Well… As I´ve already learned during this experiment- Nothing that looks easy IS actually easy to copy. My recreation is confirmation enough.

Tadaaa.

I don´t blame you if you´re laughing. To be perfectly honest- I can´t stop laughing, myself, when I look at my copy. It´s so… so… comical. Wanna know what happened? At what point I made mistakes?

This Is What Happened

#1  I had an idea and thought I could pull it off. * sigh * The original image is very light and the use of filters is heavy. There´s a beautiful contrast of white, deep wine red and pink. My reality is gray. I like everything to have neutral colors. Gray, white, deep blue, taupe and black. I´ll sometimes add a dark pop of color when the mood strikes me ( which is never ).

My idea was: I could pull off the same idea just with different colors ( since I wasn´t too keen on making more phone calls ). I ended up making one call for the candles ( again ).

Faux fur? Check! Stole the Fifi from my daughter. Faux flowers? Oh yeah, I had some, in gray. A deco band? I have quite a few of those in black ( and I don´t know why ). The book I chose to feature for this feature:  `This Is Love` by Caroline Nolan.

#2  Having an eye for decoration wouldn´t hurt. Which, I shamefully admit, I don´t have. I mean- look at the mess of an image I created ( insert laughter ). I couldn´t decorate even if my life depended on it. But that´s fine. I´m just not one of those gifted individuals.

#3  `You can´t polish shit.” – is what my Grandmother used to say. And I agree. Not even filters were able to help my recreation.  I used a total of 4 filters. Can you tell?

My Conclusion

I have absolutely no talent in the decorating department. If I had then I´d definitely have more shit laying around to use. I should have known from the start that the chosen feature was way out of my league. I guess I was blinded by the shiny pretty thing.

I will say this though – I had fun recreating acozybibliophilie´s Bookstagram image. I laughed so much during the set up. I nearly had tears in my eyes from laughter because I kept hearing my Granny´s voice telling me that I should stop trying to polish shit.

I won´t ask you if my recreation was a success. I know it wasn´t. And I´m okay with that. Sometimes you just have to accept that shit is shit.

Have you done the Books & Deco/Props themed image? What props do you use? Let me know in the comments below. I´d love to chat. ❤
