Mug Monday & Book Discussion Battles With My Brother

Happy Mug Monday!

I´m sad to say that I´m lacking originality with my mugs lately. Today´s mug feature is just another Ikea mug * hides face in shame * But on a positive note: I still managed to feature a mug! ( gotta always see the positives in a negative situation, right?)

Now that we´ve got the mug feature out of the way, let´s get to the subject of the day:

Book Discussion Battles With My Brother

Do you have siblings? I do. I have 2 brothers ( I´m the middle child ). But I´m only close with one- The youngest. Despite our six-year age gap, we have more in common than either of us have with our older brother. This includes the love for reading ( something my older brother doesn´t have. Hence the reason we think he was found by our parents )

Just recently my brother and I met up for drinks to catch up on life. This quickly turned into Netflix talk and eventually into book talk.

Me: “Dude! Have you seen the Witcher?”
Brother: “Nope. But I read the books and played the game.”
Me: ” But, but… Henry Cavill… ”
Brother: “Henry Cavill isn´t in the books.”

A cold-hearted statement but I ignored it. How anyone can ignore that man´s beauty is beyond me ( I´m a fan * hides face * ) After a loooong discussion about the importance of reading the books before watching a show ( yes, dear brother… I´m aware ) we pushed the Henry Cavill subject to the side and entered our usual book discussion battle.
What is a book discussion battle? It´s where two people ask each other the “Have you read__?” question and begin to discuss. Mind you- this type of conversation with anyone can get heated. Having a book discussion battle with a sibling, though, ( especially between my brother and I ) can get explosive.

Me: “Have you read “The Ruin Of Kings?” ( The Ruin Of Kings- Jenn Lyons )
Mason: “Yes, and it was full of shit.”
Me: * gasps *
Mason: “Your book tastes suck.”
Me: “Says the person who loved The Blade Itself.” ( The Blade Itself – Joe Abercrombie )
Mason: “Yeah, I have taste. That book is a piece of art.”
Me: “You wouldn´t know a piece of book art even if it hit you.”
Mason: “Game Of Thrones was awesome.”
Me: “Game of Thrones isn´t finished yet.”
Mason: “Not this again…”

This is an endless cycle of agreeing and playful insulting. Sometimes we get loud, sometimes we´re rude to each other and sometimes we just end up laughing everything off. Isn’t that what siblings usually do? ( I´d think so. We might be the exception, though ). We always end our discussions by agreeing on what a genius work of art The Lord Of The Rings is ( our favorite books ). Then we start arguing again because I can´t stop myself from reminding him that he still hasn´t read The Silmarillion.
Mason: “YOU SAID I DON`T NEED TO READ THAT ONE!”

Of course, I recall saying no such thing. I´m a book blogger. I don´t necessarily stop people from reading anything. It must have been the wine.

On the plus side– It´s good to know my own brother actually listens to some of my recommendations. Just as I always make mental notes if he recommends anything.

I love to have these one-on-one book discussion battles with my brother. It´s the safest and funniest way to do book talk. There´s no holding back. There are no hard feelings afterward.
Do we always read the same books? No. While I need to be in the mood for certain genres, Mason lives for fantasy. It can take a year before I pick up a book he´s already read. Sometimes we´ll buddy-read a non-fiction but other than that? Most of the time it´s a case of: he´s already read the book I´m thinking about buying. Once every blue moon it´s the other way around.

Back to Henry Cavill:

I haven´t read The Witcher books but I did invest time to take a look at it on Netflix. Jesus Christ and his twelve buddies… I swear those leather pants will be the death of me one day ( and those moves ) I´m not a fan of his “Witcher” voice, though. Couldn´t keep myself from laughing everytime he croaked “fuck”.

I´ll also admit that I had to watch a few Youtube videos on what the Hell The Witcher was about ( even after I watched all 8 episodes ). Only then did I fully understand what was going on. Those surprise time leaps threw me off. Am I alone with this?
What did we learn today? That my brother doesn´t care for Henry Cavill´s killer moves and rolled up sleeves. He doesn´t care for the actor at all. He loved the books and the game, though. He is planning to watch the Netflix version soon. I, on the other hand, care a great deal for Henry ( you can probably tell ). I liked the Netflix version ( it´s the only version I know ). Will probably watch the next season since I know what it´s about.

Dat ass!

Before I leave…

What about you? Do you have siblings? If so, do you share the book love? Have you watched The Witcher? What about Henry Cavill? Are you a fan?

That´s it for today, my dear bookish friends. I hope you enjoyed this post.

Have a wonderful Monday.

Feel book loved,

My Thoughts on Lit Chat: A Conversation Starter About Books

The solution for a successful bookish-eventful evening!

Here´s the deal- I love having book chats. I love having book chats until I drop. Because these types of chats are so informative and fun. There are so many topics one can talk about.

Well, my dear book-loving bunch… Normal book conversations are great but there is something out there that has the potential to spice these conversations up a bit.

May I present to you Lit Chat: Conversation Starters About Books & Life !

You´ve probably already seen or heard about this Q&A card set from Book Riot. But have you actually bought one of these little conversation starters? I admit I was so curious that I took the risk and bought it.

In all honesty? This is such a cool bookish thing to have.

Each of the 50 cards in this conversation deck is printed with two reading-themed questions (100 questions total). Some invoke books that are tied to memories (name your favorite childhood picture book); others prompt you to choose ideal reading material for a hypothetical situation (if you were stranded on a desert island, what book would you want with you?). Some of them aim to get people comparing their favorite (and not-so-favorite) characters or authors, and others engage in popular debates amongst readers (name a movie adaptation you liked and defend your choice). Created to give readers of all persuasions an excuse to talk about books, ideas, and life itself, this deck is a great addition to any booklover’s shelf.

Description taken from Amazon.com

There are 4 categories divided by color, each offering fun, interesting and engaging book related questions. And trust me- there are enough questions for one evening in this bundle.

Just perfect for when friends are over!

This Q&A set also works beautifully for book bloggers! Want to start a fun book discussion on your book blog? Just pick a card and start writing! Seriously, it works. I´ve done it.

This also makes the perfect gift for book friends.

And the best part of all? It´s affordable. ( I think I paid 10 Euros ).

If you´re looking for something to make those book chats a little more alive then I suggest you get Lit Chat. It´s not necessarily something everyone needs in their lives but definitely, a nice thing to have at home for yourself, or as a gift for others who´d appreciate something book related.

Just thought I´d get that out there.

Sounds random, I know.

But it´s cool. I swear.

Bah, I have to leave or else I´ll sound even more awkward. ( * mumbling to myself * should´ve typed up that one review post instead of doing this )

Have a good one, book loves!

Mug Monday & My Next Reads

Hello and welcome to another Mug Monday.

For this week´s feature, I thought I´d share my newest Mug addition: Cat mug.

20191012_181054416766291077815980.jpg

Also known as my recent favorite piece of ceramic. It´s also the most wanted mug in the house at the moment. Why? It´s pink and a cat´s head is on it. I have two girls. You may do the math and imagine the mug war that´s been going on in my house.

Over a single mug. MY mug. * sigh *

Anyway- Let´s talk about books.

I´m not sure what´s been put in the water lately because romance authors have been releasing books left and right. Everywhere I look I see an author announcing their new releases or throwing publication dates out into the world. Tons of cover reveals are happening as well. Right now, all I´m feeling is a sense of hopelessness because I certainly don´t have the money to buy all the books that are coming out… at the same time. How cruel is that?! For almost a year I´ve been complaining about how quiet it´s become in the romance world and NOW everyone decides to release together.

In this case, I have no other choice than to read all the unread books I already have on my shelves ( I swear, book bloggers have such a hard life. lol ). In the mug feature you can see ( well no. You probably can´t since my camera refused to cooperate ) a few paperbacks that are just waiting for my attention. Actually- the whole shelf above my mug is filled with unread treasures from my TBR pile. I should be occupied for a while.

With all the bookish goodness happening lately, I can probably get to these and ignore every other new release. I just have to stay strong for a hot minute and keep away from the internet.

Fingers crossed I´ll be able to read half of what I aimed for. 11 romances and 1 fantasy novel.

That´s it for this week. I hope this Mug Monday wasn´t too snooze-worthy.

Tell me: What are your November reads? Have you read any of the books in my November batch? Let me know in the comments below. I´d love to chat. ❤

Wishing each and every one of you a wonderful start of the week.

Feel hugged,

Morgana

Thank The Books It´s Friday

Well, what do ya know… It´s our favorite day of the week- FRIDAY! A good enough reason to unleash the Friday squirrel.

squirrel fuck

With desperate squirrel out of the way I´d say it´s time to talk about what´s happened this week.

tula

  1.   I discovered that fantasy author Sherrilyn Kenyon suspects her husband poisoned her. Well, this news popped up around mid January but I just found out. That´s some creepy shit right there, if you ask me. Looks like her hubby is a real piece of work. The article here states that he´s done it for financial gain and to ruin her career.  I guess hubby´s not that clever. If he wants financial gain then he shouldn´t want to ruin her career. What an eejit. Give her chocolate then divorce her. And to think her husband´s a lawyer. * snorts *

2.   Authors bribing fans to leave reviews on Amazon with Kindles. This is old as fuck. The only difference between the review begging from then and now is that it´s NOW happening publicly, whereas back in the day authors would offer Kindles and stuff within closed social media groups. I really don´t know how to feel about this. I´m torn between wanting to applaud authors for having the guts to bribe and wanting to flat out tell them you can´t buy reviews ( well, technically… you can but that´s not the point ). Oh, and to also exclude book bloggers from said bribery. Da fuq?

3.   My apocalyptic BookTube project is launching Monday, 11. Feb. 2019. YAY!

4.   More Netgalley approvals came through.

Not sure when I´ll be able to read all the Netgalley gems but Imma hoping it´ll happen this year. Just the thought of it is giving me heartburn.

5. My youngest daughter ( 7 ) finished reading her first book. 50 pages! It took her some time but she made it. Her final thoughts ( and I quote ): “The book was stupid.

6. Unsuccessful book hunt. Seems like authors are either extremely busy writing or they´re having a creative break at the moment. Aside from Netgalley. That place is buzzing with life.

7. I received an early birthday gift from my mother. A biography called

`Going Gray: What I Learned About Beauty, Sex, Work, Motherhood, Authenticity, And Everything Else That Really Matters`. Lord, is that title a mouthful.

Going Grey

At first I thought she had bought the book for herself- I was wrong. She actually believes I´m counting my days. Not funny, Mom. But ( !!! ) Two can play this game and I so happen to be good at it. Soon my mom will be the new and proud owner of `Nursing Home Ninjas`

Nursing Home Ninjas

That´s it for the week. For next week I´m expecting a few days with a little more adventure or excitement. Fingers crossed.

How was your week? What plans do you have for the weekend? Let´s chat!

I hope you all have a safe weekend and enjoy whatever you have planned. ❤

See you all on Mug Monday!

Much love,

Mug Monday & Romance Rant

Welcome to another wonderful Mug Monday, everyone! I trust all, if not most of you have navigated your way into 2019 safely? If not, don´t worry. I haven´t recovered myself.

I feel like I haven´t slept in ages. In fact- I haven´t. It all started the January 1st.

Pink eye, sinus infection, the flu, repeat. 2019 has started very cruel but you know what? It´ll all pass… Not like the romance genre.

I made a tragic discovery while I was sofa bound.

Romance is a dying genre.

How I´ve come to this conclusion? Because every romance I´ve managed to read since mid – December has been a floppy, luke warm 3 star read. Most of the romance reads I´ve read in 2018 hardly lived up to my romance standards. What does this tell us? That romance writers are either not working their magic, or they´re in a romance funk themselves, or they´ve written off romances.

This isn NOT a good sign. It´s only January and I´m already bitching. We´ve all got 11 more months ahead of us. I don´t want to nag for 11 more months.

Let´s see if the stack of new books can make me fall in love with the romance genre again ( stack of mystery romance purchases to be revealed ), Fingers crossed.

False optimism.

Now, as for the rest of my apocalyptic Monday… I´ve started my new reading log. Oh yes- This bitch is going double weird this time. Journals aren´t enough. I am now the proud owner of a journal where I can keep track of ALL my 2019 reads. Space for 100 books should be enough for 2019, right? I sure hope so.

Oh, I nearly forgot! Mug Monday wouldn´t be Mug Monday without a mug pic. A wonderful Christmas gift from my younger brother. ❤ I´m not so sure about the bestie part ( as I´m sure he´d rather die of shame than call me his bestie ). We are close enough where I can be considered a sidekick , though. *  sigh  *

mug monday sis

I guess that´s it for today, my dear bookish padawans. I shall now retire back to the sofa and hope that I´ll survive January…. somehow.

Feel hugged,
