Thank The Books It´s Friday

Well, what do ya know… It´s our favorite day of the week- FRIDAY! A good enough reason to unleash the Friday squirrel.

squirrel fuck

With desperate squirrel out of the way I´d say it´s time to talk about what´s happened this week.

tula

  1.   I discovered that fantasy author Sherrilyn Kenyon suspects her husband poisoned her. Well, this news popped up around mid January but I just found out. That´s some creepy shit right there, if you ask me. Looks like her hubby is a real piece of work. The article here states that he´s done it for financial gain and to ruin her career.  I guess hubby´s not that clever. If he wants financial gain then he shouldn´t want to ruin her career. What an eejit. Give her chocolate then divorce her. And to think her husband´s a lawyer. * snorts *

2.   Authors bribing fans to leave reviews on Amazon with Kindles. This is old as fuck. The only difference between the review begging from then and now is that it´s NOW happening publicly, whereas back in the day authors would offer Kindles and stuff within closed social media groups. I really don´t know how to feel about this. I´m torn between wanting to applaud authors for having the guts to bribe and wanting to flat out tell them you can´t buy reviews ( well, technically… you can but that´s not the point ). Oh, and to also exclude book bloggers from said bribery. Da fuq?

3.   My apocalyptic BookTube project is launching Monday, 11. Feb. 2019. YAY!

4.   More Netgalley approvals came through.

Not sure when I´ll be able to read all the Netgalley gems but Imma hoping it´ll happen this year. Just the thought of it is giving me heartburn.

5. My youngest daughter ( 7 ) finished reading her first book. 50 pages! It took her some time but she made it. Her final thoughts ( and I quote ): “The book was stupid.

6. Unsuccessful book hunt. Seems like authors are either extremely busy writing or they´re having a creative break at the moment. Aside from Netgalley. That place is buzzing with life.

7. I received an early birthday gift from my mother. A biography called

`Going Gray: What I Learned About Beauty, Sex, Work, Motherhood, Authenticity, And Everything Else That Really Matters`. Lord, is that title a mouthful.

Going Grey

At first I thought she had bought the book for herself- I was wrong. She actually believes I´m counting my days. Not funny, Mom. But ( !!! ) Two can play this game and I so happen to be good at it. Soon my mom will be the new and proud owner of `Nursing Home Ninjas`

Nursing Home Ninjas

That´s it for the week. For next week I´m expecting a few days with a little more adventure or excitement. Fingers crossed.

How was your week? What plans do you have for the weekend? Let´s chat!

I hope you all have a safe weekend and enjoy whatever you have planned. ❤

See you all on Mug Monday!

Mug Monday & Romance Rant

Welcome to another wonderful Mug Monday, everyone! I trust all, if not most of you have navigated your way into 2019 safely? If not, don´t worry. I haven´t recovered myself.

I feel like I haven´t slept in ages. In fact- I haven´t. It all started the January 1st.

Pink eye, sinus infection, the flu, repeat. 2019 has started very cruel but you know what? It´ll all pass… Not like the romance genre.

I made a tragic discovery while I was sofa bound.

Romance is a dying genre.

How I´ve come to this conclusion? Because every romance I´ve managed to read since mid – December has been a floppy, luke warm 3 star read. Most of the romance reads I´ve read in 2018 hardly lived up to my romance standards. What does this tell us? That romance writers are either not working their magic, or they´re in a romance funk themselves, or they´ve written off romances.

This isn NOT a good sign. It´s only January and I´m already bitching. We´ve all got 11 more months ahead of us. I don´t want to nag for 11 more months.

Let´s see if the stack of new books can make me fall in love with the romance genre again ( stack of mystery romance purchases to be revealed ), Fingers crossed.

False optimism.

Now, as for the rest of my apocalyptic Monday… I´ve started my new reading log. Oh yes- This bitch is going double weird this time. Journals aren´t enough. I am now the proud owner of a journal where I can keep track of ALL my 2019 reads. Space for 100 books should be enough for 2019, right? I sure hope so.

Oh, I nearly forgot! Mug Monday wouldn´t be Mug Monday without a mug pic. A wonderful Christmas gift from my younger brother. ❤ I´m not so sure about the bestie part ( as I´m sure he´d rather die of shame than call me his bestie ). We are close enough where I can be considered a sidekick , though. *  sigh  *

mug monday sis

I guess that´s it for today, my dear bookish padawans. I shall now retire back to the sofa and hope that I´ll survive January…. somehow.

Feel hugged,

Mug Monday & Behind The Book Blog Scenes

Mug Monday Feature – My Monday Mug ( sorry about the dino horse mug. Daughter #2 and I had a very opinionated discussion on the feature. To be presented when we´ve come to an agreement )

Book Topic – Behind The Book Blog Scenes + Book news

Happy Mug Monday! And welcome to something I´m sure isn´t as interesting as a Top 10 post or a Tag… But what the Hell, right? This is a blog and I can do whatever the flipping foo foo I want ( apologies – I´ve only had a slice of toast with Nutella for dinner earlier ).

What I have in mind for this week´s post ( and for the next Mug Monday posts ) will be more revealing than anything else I´ve done.

For the next few Mondays I´ll be showing you what it is I do before hopping online and giving you all ALL the glitter and glam. Yes. You´re going to see the mess.

This is not a post about me unloading the super ugly onto you ( I´ve got that special reserved for the husbutt. Lol ). You´re going to see the harmless mess. The type that´s sort of mandatory when it comes to book blogging.

What I´ll be revealing:

  • My notes ( Yes. I´m a note whore )
  • The way I prep props ( Yes. I´m a master at organizing shit )
  • Where I shop for props ( this includes stealing  borrowing from a selected few people)
  • Blog routine ( Yes, I have one )

Etcetera, etcetera….

Here´s a very organized sneak peek of what´s to be expected.

mug basement

So, basically… you´ll get to see my book blogging life in form of pics and…. maybe a vid or two ( who knows. Haven´t thought that one out yet ) I can´t really give you much more info because I´m currently distracted by all the new sparkling lights and Christmas ornaments and glitter crap I just bought.

My attempt at being funny. Sparkly… get it? HAHAHA

Speaking of Edward Cullen ( Laawd, I can´t remember the last time I typed that name out. Years, people! IT`S BEEN YEARS!) 10 years, to be exact. Jesus H Christ on a popsicle stick- A decade flew by in a blink of an eye! ( Need to eat something or else I´ll turn into a poet )

I´m not mad that this is Twilight´s tenth year anniversary. The more time passes the more we´ll forget all about the era where people romanticized vampires.

Oh, and speaking of being mad….

This. I am literally fuming. F.U.M.I.N.G.

after

I go online and the first thing I see is this?! * deep breaths, Morgana. Count to 3…. *

A movie poster for the upcoming Àfter film. After- as in Anna Todd´s bestselling After. But hey, that wasn´t the only shocker of that hour. The trailer popped up after I saw the poster.

WHEN!? WHY?!

How was I able to miss out on this terrifying news? Why did anyone think this was a good idea? After is a story about an unhealthy relationship between teenagers ( or young adults. Can´t remember. Don´t really care, either ) And WHY (!!!!!!!!!!!!) make the trailer look like this movie is going to be the next Fifty Shades Of Grey? There´s no reason for the seductive background beats unless they´re turning this into a….. I´m sorry. I can´t even finish that without breaking out in a hysterical fit. Does this surprise anyone?

I can feel my blood pressure rising. Would you like to know why? Feel free to read my review on the After books HERE.

Okay, my lovely bookish Padawans. It´s time for this lady to kick her house shoes off and try to pick out my next read. Because right now, I´m in the worst reading funk I´ve ever been. Not a great position to be in when you’re a book blogger.

I hope you enjoyed this week´s Mug Monday.

Feel free to leave your thoughts on the Twilight anniversary below. And don´t shy away from expressing your own feelings towards the upcoming After movie. I promise- all thoughts are welcomed. ❤

Until next time!

Educational Books

Hi and welcome back to another Mug Monday!

While the book blog universe has been a little quiet I decided to use the slow days to catch up on other books I love. Educational books. History & Science books, if you like.

Yeah. I´m secretly a nerd. SURPRISE!

Well, I´m not a classic nerd. I´m not one of those Hipster nerds, either. I´m just a normal 36 year old who loves to wear sweats and hates her bra who ALSO happens to have a great appreciation for knowledge.

So, it´s not all about romance for me. Reading Contemporary romances is just a nice escape from reality. I consider fiction as my “fun” reads.

Reading History and Science books… Well, that´s my passion. I can spend hours studying the past and learning about the many things that have shaped our lives today. I can sit on one spot until my ass becomes numb reading psychology, chemistry and biology books. I want to know what makes people tick, what made people tick and how the world functioned hundreds and thousands of years ago.

Mug Monday Blue

Does that make me a nerd? Not really. Just shows I love to read. ❤

As of now, I´m reading a wonderful book about books that changed history. Funnily enough, that´s also the title of the book. `Books That Changed History` by Kathryn Hennessy.

A brilliant read that gives insight on many of the wonderful editions that molded and formed the world as we know it. I´m in book love!

Without any hesitation I´d recommend this book to anyone who´s interested in history.

Now, let´s get back to the nerding bit.

It truly is something fabulous when you´re hungry for knowledge. But there´s also a downside to loving history and science. When you read as many educational reads ( I´ll just call my fav´s that because I´m too lazy to type out history & science ) you also know things. Many things. Can you guess what I´m referring to?

I´m a avid reader and a conversation killer.

Believe it or not ( Okay, fine. Believe it. Lol ) I´m the worst person at any family gatherings and other parties. A buzz kill. Husbutt even told me once that I´m like the music DJs play when it´s time to close a club.

And he´s right. But I can´t help myself! It´s an obsession I don´t want to control. If I´m not reading romances I´m reading educational books. And if I´m not reading at all then that only means I´m occupied with the kids, being a wife to someone who´s afraid of tall grass, and working in a lab. The only thing left is the History channel.

So, yes. Reading history and science books is wonderful but also less cool because you know many MANY things lots of people aren´t interested in. Husbutt tries to act interested but fails. The kids ask a question and then interrupt me mid answer with some other random question. My own mother hangs up on me when I start talking about how the british monarchy lost it´s power. ( Well, I did that on purpose because I was busy. I knew my mom would hang up on me. lol. Best tactic ever! )

It´s a curse to know things. It´s also a blessing because… I know things. Lol.

So, there you have it. I love history & science more than I love romance. ❤

What about you? Is there anything you enjoy reading besides the usual? What genre do you love that no one knows of?

Let´s chat! ( Don´t worry, I won´t bore you with anything I know. Lol )

Happy Mug Monday!

So, what has this little book blogger been up to since her last Mug Monday post? Ha! I´ve been procrastinating. Alright. Fine. If you want to know the truth- I´ve been physically lazy and mentally working overtime.

Ever since my short break I´ve had time to think. Of course, I´ve read a few books, too, but that´s secondary at the moment.

I´ve noticed a shift in my reading tastes. I´m not sure if this has something to do with the lack of good romances being published or if it´s just a phase. I cannot stomach another sappy love story.

Don´t get me wrong. I still love the romance genre. I also still make a beeline towards the women’s fiction aisle in a bookstore and I still search for new romance titles online in hopes for finding something good ( See? I´ve even lowered my book standards ).  But do I find anything worth reading? Not at the moment. It´s as if authors are bored with the genre and just publish romances for the heck of it. That´s probably not true. But give a girl a break. Book hunting is exhausting at the moment. Especially when it´s scorching 35°C ( 95°F ) outside.

So, this means a few things. I could:

a) Continue to tackle the TBR list

b) Wait for a miracle to happen

c) Move on

d) Visit Netgalley

e) Go on another creative break

f) Do garden work

g) Contact friends I promised I´d call… 2 months ago

I contacted the friends- I´m forgiven. I don´t need ANOTHER creative break. Garden work is the greatest punishment ever. My TBR list can kindly go to hell.  I cannot foresee any miracles happening soon so that leaves me with Netgalley.

Netgalley. It´s been a while since I last stepped foot on Book Catalogue Land. Well, it´s been exactly 14 hours ( before that, 3 years ). Since romance isn´t feeding my needs I decided to check out what´s available on Netgalley.

I was successful. Greedy and successful. SO MANY BOOKS. So many non romances. And now, I have loads of Netgalley reads, a giant TBR list and the books I got while on vacation.

Sometimes I really do believe I have fruit missing from my fruit bowl.

Well, at least I have books to read, right? My worries for the romance genre are currently put to rest for the time being. I´ll be occupied with mermaids and pirates, kingdoms and witches now.

Speaking of new books and reading… I just finished this beauty ( pun intended ).

belle

`Belle` ( A retelling of Beauty and the Beast ) by author Cameron Dokey. Did I love, like, enjoy or hate it? Well, I´ll tell you that I fell in love with the cover. The rest of my thoughts will be available in the upcoming review.

The mug is nothing special. Just your typical IKEA mug that probably won´t last long ( they never do in my house ). The cold chocolate milk topped with whipped cream was divine, though.

That´s it for this week, lovies. Now you know I´ve dug my own grave and will now endure a massive and glorious reading marathon.

Hope you enjoy your Monday!

Don´t forget to share the book ❤

Warm hugs,

Morgana <3<3
