Books, Baths & Boobs – Recreating Bookstagram Images: Part 5

It´s Bookish Art time!

This is what I love about Bookstagram –  The creativity. How someone can use something simple as a book and turn it into a piece of art.

The Bookstagrammers who specialize in this niche are true artists. From optical illusions to simple shape creations… You can literally feel the love oozing out of each feature.

My “Let´s recreate Bookstagram images” experiment has gotten exciting because this time I´ll not be using props. The only objects required are books.

The image I chose to recreate is from Bookstagrammer  @booksbyfran

This is cool. It might not be everyone´s favorite shape but you have to admit that this looks pretty neat. Even her toenails match with the books. I could definitely pull that off, too. Well, the toenail color but not the book colors. This is why I decided to recreate this image but add a little twist to the mix. My weapons of choice?

Socks. ( because I was too lazy to paint my toenails after having removed the previous polish ) and black books.

And this is what came out. Am I satisfied? You bet!

So, I didn´t use blue books. Possibly because I don´t have 29 blue books. I have 29 black books, though. Works just as great.

As for how I managed to set up my books in a heart shape… Was it hard / easy? Let´s get into the details.

How I Recreated @booksbyfran´s Bookstagram Feature

#1  Find 29 books. Which wasn´t hard. I have enough physical books scattered all around the house. The only problem was finding 29 same / similar in color books. Most of my books have black covers.

#2   Have patience. If you don´t then find a way to become patient because this book set up comes close to a game of tumbling dominoes.

It was no surprise that my books didn´t stand straight like actual domino stones. They´re paperbacks – Bendable. I had to be patient and creative about this whole process.

#3   Work fast. As soon as the books stood in place I included my feet and took some shots. I didn´t care if they came out good or not. I didn´t have enough time to dwell on angles and lights. The books kept threatening to fall. If it hadn´t been for my feet they would have fallen over. This recreation didn´t take longer than 20 minutes.

#4   No filters needed. The only thing I needed to do was crop and shift the image in place.

My Conclusion

This was the first Bookstagram recreation that was actually fun. A little nerve-wracking but still enjoyable.  I think I wasn´t able to get frustrated because I knew the end result would be so satisfying.

“Omg! A heart shape made with books! I DID THAT! “

It´s the little things in life that bring us joy.

Would I recommend trying this type of Bookstagram feature out? Definitely. Unless you flip out easily- Then you might look for something less challenging.

10 Most Amazing Book Sculptures & Book Art

It looks like we´ve long passed the era of using books as a way to gain knowledge and/ or for sheer entertainment.

Because reading isn´t the only thing you can do with books. You can use books to even out a wobbly table, use books as table legs or even build your own Christmas tree out of books. The internet provides countless ideas on what you can use books for.

There are no boundaries when it comes to creativity.

Book art is a debatable thing in the book world. While the art, per se, is often beyond stunning, many book lovers believe certain book art is just book abuse. Because what book lover would be sane enough to butcher a book? Readers appreciate books. To have and to hold and to let them collect dust on bookshelves. Readers don´t just sit down, fall in love with characters and a story. They don´t just wait until they´ve finished reading and decide to get a scalpel and carve out pages ( or use a sword, in Jeoffry´s case ). That´s just sacrilegious.

You don´t hurt books. That´s rule #1 in the book universe. But (!!!) you can be forgiven if you belong to those creative people who create dreams and magic with books and their pages by using a sharp object. ( or if you just use a random newspaper and just add the creation to an open book. That´ll save you, too )

Here are the 10 most amazing book sculptures and book art created by insanely talented artists!

  1. Release The Magic Wand!

This is great. It looks so simple and easy to copy although it probably is anything but.

2. Butterfly Falls

This is really cute and would look amazing as a wall decoration next to a bookshelf.

book art 2

3. Butterfly Book Hive

I can´t decide which is prettier. The butterflies above or this version.

book art 3

4. The Wisdom Tree

Won´t you look at the leaves! Such detail and… so tiny. I would have giving myself countless scissor cuts if that were my creation. Love this.

book art 4

5. The Tower Rose

I´ve tried creating one of these and failed miserably. My piss poor attempt to create such a beautiful piece of art was nothing to compared to this. Stunning.

book art 5

6. I Have No Words

I can´t. I can´t imagine how long this must have taken to create. It´s so chaotic and mesmerizing. I can´t even look away. Whoever created this art is clearly DA BOMB.

book art 6

7. Book-to-pus

This brilliantly crafted octopus literally looks like a creature trying to escape. Someone must have left a book open for too long * gg*

book art 7

8. Literary Woods

What a gem this one is. The added black background makes this whole scene picture book worthy. The work invested here must have been immense!

book art 8

9. The Hidden Bookish Temple

No words needed here. The detail work speaks for itself. Whoever created this must have had lots of love, energy and patience. LOVE.

book art 9

10. The Book Wave

Look at this. LOOK AT IT! This book sculpture looks just like the real thing. Even the colors work. I am in love.
