Black Swan Affair – K. L. Kreig

Book Description

I’ve loved him as long as I can remember.

The gangly boy with big brown eyes and unruly hair who grew up into an intoxicating man. He wears scruff like he invented it and ambles with a swagger that makes panties drop.

Killian Shepard.

We grew up together. We played Ghost in the Graveyard. Had our own rock band. It didn’t matter that he was five years older than me. It didn’t matter that he looked at me as a kid sister even as I grew into woman. It didn’t even matter when he left me behind to go to college and start his adult life.

He’d be back.
He was always meant to be mine.

He came back, all right. But instead of smelling of promises, he stunk of betrayal. And he destroyed me—us—the day he married my sister instead of me.

So I did the only thing a girl like me in my position could do.

I got my revenge.
I married his brother, Kael.
Now we’re one big happy f*cking family.

My Thoughts

I´ve been having chest pain ever since I started this book. Just thinking about the story makes me rub the spot where my heart is.

Jesus Christ. Holy Fucking Hell….. * wipe sweat off forehead *

`Black Swan Affair` by K.L. Kreig is by far one of the best love triangle stories I´ve read. I thought `Thoughtless` by S.C. Stephens was emotional torture. Even the `Avoiding`series by K. A. Linde was an angsty emotional catastrophe. But this one…. I´m so exhausted and emotionally beaten.

Why can´t all books be like this one?!

I seriously need a full week, in my bedroom, with a box of tissues and a crate of wine just so I can recover properly. Damn this author and her ability to screw with my feelings!

A love triangle. Brothers and one woman. Both love her. One brother makes a mistake. She marries the brother she´s not in love with and the whole world becomes one clusterfuck. I´m telling you- this shit is soul wrecking!

100% unpredictable. 100% full of angst. 100% frustrating. 100% GIVE ME SOME WINE TO DULL THE PAIN I`M FEELING FOR THE CHARACTERS, DAMN IT!

Okay, technically, the core of the story isn´t new. Love triangles have been around the block and alot of those types of stories weren´t well told. `Black Swan Affair´ was beyond fantastic. I was sweating bullets from the first until the last page, hoping for a miracle to happen so the characters suffering would finally end.

This is one of those stories where you want the Heroine to find her happiness but you also demand for both Heros to have their happy ever after, too. * sob * Throughout the whole story it´s clear what Maverick ( Heroine) wanted, or who she wanted. But was what / who she wanted good for her or was what / who she needed the better option? Mav´s life was a hot mess. I can´t really say if she acted correctly because if I were in her position I would have hidden under the bed until everyone disappeared.

Both brothers ( Killian and Keal ) were great. I mean- I loved both! How was that possible? I usually love to hate one person involved in a love triangle but the Shepard brothers wouldn´t allow it. * sigh *

2/3 into the story I was okay with whoever Maverick picked. That´s how exhausted I was. And in the end…. I was happy with the choice she made. In fact- I was so happy I opened a bottle of wine just to celebrate the fact that I and the characters were put out of our misery.

K. L. Kreig did a number on me and for that I can´t thank the author enough. Good stories are hard to find these days. Especially ones that are fabulously written, like this one is. High class storytelling.

Listen up! If you´re looking for the whole package ( angst, devastation, love, loss, great sex, frustrating moments, etc. etc.) then you need to drop whatever you´re doing and read this story.

I sure as Hell will be giving this one a re-read and a re-re-read and I´ll never get tired of it.

The Cover – 3 stars ( The image didn´t grab my attention. The title did, though. )

The Story – 5+ stars ( Blooming Hell. Fucking awesome. A romance that will forever haunt me.)

The Characters – 5+ stars ( Wonderful characters. Just perfect. My favorite is Kael. There´s some serious fangirling going on from my part when it comes to him.)

My emotional state after finishing this read– I´m so fucking tired but 100% satisfied. I need a break before I can start anything new.

I´m giving `Black Swan Affair`, by the amazing K. L. Kreig, 5 out of 5 outstanding stars!

Please, do yourselves a favor and read this book. If you´re into frustrating love triangles then just click here and buy the story. I swear on all that´s fluffy….you won´t regret it.

My Thoughts

Here´s what happened:

I found this book on my bookshelf the other day. I shit you not! It was there. I honest to God cannot remember buying this one. I mean, I obviously did buy it but can´t recall when or why. It was just there between all the other black book spines, collecting dust.

This is sort of a big deal for me because I don´t buy paperbacks unless I loved the ebook copies I´ve read before. I´m pretty sure someone smuggled this one on my bookshelf because I would definitely remember a less appealing cover. ( Not really my cup of tea.) Or, I´m finally losing my marbles.

Anyways- despite being worried about the loss of my memory I was thrilled I had something new to read. I prepared myself to be blown away.

I really need to stop getting my hopes up. Or I need to do some massive brain-training so I can remember shit.

There came a moment when I wanted to DNF this book. `Conquer Your Love` by J. C. Reed wasn´t for me at all. Or, maybe it would have been if it had been properly edited.

Alot of people don´t realize the importance of having an editor look over a story before it hits the market.

Plot holes, misspellings, poor character development… those are the things I noticed while reading `Conquer Your Love` and I´m not even a professional editor ( I´m not any type of editor, Lol. ) It says alot when a simple reader can pick out faults in a story. Nevertheless- I saw the idea the author had and I still didn´t like it much.

It was a struggle to get through yet I managed to finish.

There was too much drama, too much eyebrow raising from my end and way too many reading breaks.

Would I re-read `Conquer Your Love` ? Nope.

Would I recommend this book? Without wanting to ruin the author…. I´d say no. I wouldn´t recommend this one to anyone who´s looking for something with more depth.
STILL- I can see why alot of people would love this read. Totally weird, right?

The Cover – 1 star ( Nope. Lots of nopes. Tribal tattoos went out of style years ago. I´ve also seen my fair share of naked bods on book covers. They´re not too appealing.)

The Story – 2 stars ( Despite the poor editing I think I´ve had my fill on these stories. Too much of the non-important and far too less of the stuff that actually mattered )

The Characters – 2 stars ( Exhausting, to say the least. )

My emotional state after finishing this readutterly pooped out.

I´m giving `Conquer Your Love` ( Surrender Your Love #2 ), by J. C. Reed, 2 out of 5 stars.

Ready To Fall ( Wingmen #1) – Daisy Prescott

Book Description

Tall, dark, and handsome is an understatement when it comes to John Day. With rugged good looks, his ever present plaid shirt, and a dog named Babe, John is a modern alpha male lumberjack.

After his favorite neighbor rents out her beach cabin for the winter, John finds himself playing fireman and tour guide to Diane Watson, a beautiful brunette with her own messy past and recent battle scars.

Will he be ready to fall in love? Or will he go back to his old, flirty ways?

* This story belongs to the Wingmen series but can be easily read as a standalone without a cliffhanger *

My thoughts

This was my first go with author Daisy Prescott and I loved it. Love. You heard that? L.O.V.E.

If this book hadn´t been in my latest Bookwom Box I probably wouldn´t have given it a go ( I apologize for that statement sounding sleezy but it´s true. Sad. I know).

`Ready To Fall` the first installment in the Wingmen series, is a simple and totally romantic romance and I can´t help but think the same thing over and over again-

John Day stole my heart while telling his story. It all started with a fire coming out of a next door cabin at the ass crack of dawn and ended in pure love.

What I loved about this story was- neither the Hero nor the Heroine were looking for love. Both were actually fed up with their latest relationships and just wanted to find some quite in their lives. Diana wanted / needed to start new and John just wanted to be ( as in exist ). There weren´t over dramatic events, just your day to day „What happens when you don´t look for love but you still stumble upon it anyways?“ problems. And all while in the woodlands on an Island!

Love can be complicated but it doesn´t have to be that way. John and Diana had to find out the hard way and it was a joy to read their story.

The end was perfect. Totally my type of ending. After I finished the story I took one hard look at my own husband and asked if he wanted to become a lumberjack for me. I´ll spare you his answer. Lol.

THAT is how in love I was with this story.

The Cover – 4 stars ( I´m not a character cover fan. But the green is AWESOME. A total eye catcher)

The Story – 5 stars ( It´s simple. It´s easy and brilliantly told from the Hero´s POV. LOVE)

The Characters – 5 stars ( John is a simple character. A guy in all his glory * a sweet jerk * and Diana was another perfect figure. Strong, 3 dimensional and just fab)

My emotional state after finishing this readIn love.

I´m giving ` Ready To Fall` by Daisy Prescott 5 out of 5 stars
