The Much Needed Book Blogger Break

It´s been a minute. It´s actually been several minutes since I was last active on WordPress. To tell you the truth –  I needed a break from book blogging.

The time came when I needed to take a step back and reflect on this whole book blogging shizz.

Once every blue moon I feel the need to put some distance between me and my hobby. Because it´s not always easy. It´s not always fun. No matter how much I love what I do I´m still not immune to the pressure that comes with book blogging.

Reading became a chore again and writing blog posts started to feel wrong.

Believe it or not- It´s possible to be in a reading slump and end up slipping into a book blogger funk. It´s a thing and for me, and I saw this as a sign to distance myself from the book community.

What happened was: I hadn´t allowed myself any reading breaks in between reads. I read and read and by the end of each week I wasn´t able to remember half the stories I read only days before.

And at the same time, I was dealing with an unhealthy amount of negativity aimed towards my blog content.

Sure, I could have sent a collective ” fuck off” to all the hate and then called it a day. I could have worked on my reading pace. Could have. Should have.

Instead, I let everything get to me. I began thinking of ways on how to not offend people with my non-offensive blog posts. Ridiculous, right? I agree.

Now, after a few weeks away from the internet, I feel rejuvenated. I am ready to start again with a clear mind. And with my new found energy I rediscovered my love for reading ( and blogging ).

Okay, it´s time to get that drink that´s been calling my name and continue reading that one book I started earlier today.

Be prepared for an onslaught of blog posts and comments on your own blog. ❤

I wish each and every one of you a wonderful Sunday. Feel hugged.

Don´t forget to share the book love!

    1. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah, it´s a thing ( unfortunately ). I´m not sure if having a negative impact on our book society is a sign that I´ve made it. This whole bad publicity is good publicity thing is a lie. Lol. But thank you anyway- I do feel ready to tackle the book blog world once again. 🙂

  1. Hey, I get it. The time commitment, the work load, the lapse in short term memory…top that spam-flavored sunday with a heaping scoop of negativity and it’s easy to see why you’d take a step back. (This is exactly why I don’t have a BookTube channel anymore.) I’ll be looking forward to your upcoming posts and content whenever you feel like posting. *smiles*

    1. Naaw. Thank you for your kind words and thanks for understanding. YES. It can be a total pain sometimes. You really have to keep reminding yourself once in a while that you can´t let it all get to you. Otherwise, you´ll suffer and it´ll eventually show.
You had a booktube channel? Tell me more! 🙂 I´m actually working on a booktube project ( it´s been in the works for the last year so you can imagine how serious I am about it. )

      1. BookTube is, in its own way, no stranger to controversy or drama. I feel, like just about any platform, there is a preferred demographic and if you don’t fit, well…it can be difficult to get noticed. After three years, and 600 subscribers, my heart just wasn’t in it anymore. It was a HUGE time commitment (filming, editing, etc.), and it took time away from reading. The icing on the cake was when a man discredited my opinion on a middle grade book because he said it looked like my face was melting off. Yes. BookTube just wasn’t ready for a late-thirties woman with permanent facial paralysis. I gave up the headache. However, everyone’s experiences are their own and I, in no way, speak for everyone.

        1. I´ve noticed how dramatic BookTube can be and I admire everyone who tries to distance themselves from it. 3 years and 600 subscribers? That´s pretty impressive, if you ask me.
The hard work, time investment and having to deal with idiots- I´ve heard stories. Some make BookTube seem like a walk in the park and others have said what you´ve just mentioned ( more or less ). What I find shocking, though, is that you received hate for a permanent facial paralysis. It´s beyond me why anyone would take that step and approach you online like that. I hope you put him in his place?
About the age- I have a strong feeling you´re right. I´m 37 and have been toying with the idea of doing voice overs. Not because I´m ashamed of my age or that I look my age ( which is only natural ) but because of the possible hate towards mature people. I´m not sure if voice overs would keep the hate at bay or prevent it completely. Are your videos still up?

  2. I don’t get why they would be negative, pff. Don’t mind them, they don’t know what they’re talking about.. probably the same people who think white socks in sandals is still the way to go. I know there’s a lot of pressure sometimes when it comes to blogging, people who don’t blog don’t realise that at all. I think we all feel this sometimes and we all understand really well. Just take your time and blog when you want to, it’s the way I’m doing it now too. Have a great week lovely!

    1. Omg! I can´t stop laughing about the white socks and sandals part! HAHAHAHA. YES! You are so right about that. Isn´t that a german stereotype? HAHAHA. Thank you, love. You´re absolutely right. Many people don´t understand what blogging is, how it works and what we invest in this whole book blogging thing. But I´m stoked you do. Your words mean a lot ❤ Feel hugged. Hope you have a great week as well 🙂

  3. Welcome back Gana.😜 I don’t think anyone can fault you for taking a break and well, blogging is a hobby, if it starts to feel like a chore then it is no fun. I get what you mean about reading, it feels like you are expected to read and read and read. Going from one book to the next to the next straight away. Which is fine, but, you need to be in the mood and sometimes you just don’t want to read, you want to take a break after finishing the book and not immediately start another.

I’m a mood reader, finish a book and half the time I don’t have a clue what I want to read next, end up ummimg and arghing over it and possibly, I won’t pick a book up for a day or two and you know what? Part of me thinks, shit, I wish I could follow a set TBR and know what I want to read next but the other part enjoys taking that step back, not reading and being able to appreciate the book/books I’ve recently finished instead of forgetting about them and moving on to the next where they all blur together.

Ah, negativity! It sucks! I’ve not posted any original content for a few months and that is down to negativity. Honestly, I can’t be arsed with it, there is too many who take offence and kick off and it was getting so tiresome and I couldn’t be arsed to deal with it.

You didn’t deserve the negativity, I didn’t, we don’t. I guess that we are quite similar (don’t shoot me) in that we are opinionated and voice that opinion in our own way and due to that there are many haters with nothing better to do with their time than bitch about others, namely those with opinions.

I will look forward to seeing your non offensive blog posts soon.👍 Hopefully, I will be able to find something offensive in them and complain.😂😂😂

    1. Drew, ma man! How´s it going?
It´s a sad day when you don´t post original content because of negativity or other people´s negativity. It´s an even sadder day when you want to speak your mind but can´t be bothered because of the negativity. Dude, da hell? Get those posts up! You always got at least one hombre who´s got your back ( pointing at myself in a low – key way ). This is something I talked to the husbutt about during my funk: You and I posts these posts for a reason. But what do we want to achieve when we post are opinions? Ha! We want to achieve change. We want to make others aware of the shit that´s happening and hope our insights will make a difference. You can´t make a difference if you keep your mouth shut, you know? So, what you and I and probably a few others are doing is something good. * wink * I´m definitely ready to hand out some virtual physical education at wrong doers.

Shoot you? Now?! I will kindly remind you that it´s Sunday. I don´t shoot people on Sundays. Lol. It´s my lazy day. You could pay me and I wouldn´t even open the front door… not even for the Pope. HAHAHAHAHA.
I agree with you- We are similar with sharing our opinions. Because you and I have understood how opinions / opinion exchange works. Yupp, you and I ( or anyone else ) doesn´t deserve hate. We´re not hurting anyone.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Pfft. As if I (!!!) am offensive. * snorts * HAHAHAHAHA

Oh, another mood reader? Welcome to the club ( oh, was that one too soon after the FB book group post?! ) I totally get what you said. I used to be the sporadic reader. I had like a month of back to backs then went on a reread spree then ended up musing over the books I enjoyed.
