Brooke Stewart, a realtor in New York, finds forgetting is hard, but forgiving is harder. When the man she trusted, betrayed her, the only way to forget is to move on. Brooke is determined to start a new life, until she meets him again: the green-eyed, sexy as sin, six foot two sex god. The man who played dirty. The man who played her.
Sexy, rich, and arrogant Jett Mayfield knows he has made mistakes. He could have any other woman, and yet it’s Brooke he wants. When second chances collide with secrets and Brooke is threatened by the past, Jett is determined to protect her. She accepts his help unwillingly because she needs him but she wants to play his game on her own terms. And she has no intention to forgive or let him back into her bed.
When the man she is supposed to hate is the one she should trust, will he conquer her…or lose her forever?
A woman who can’t forgive.
A man who has made mistakes.
Two lives that are about to cross again and more secrets laid bare.
Here´s what happened:
I found this book on my bookshelf the other day. I shit you not! It was there. I honest to God cannot remember buying this one. I mean, I obviously did buy it but can´t recall when or why. It was just there between all the other black book spines, collecting dust.
This is sort of a big deal for me because I don´t buy paperbacks unless I loved the ebook copies I´ve read before. I´m pretty sure someone smuggled this one on my bookshelf because I would definitely remember a less appealing cover. ( Not really my cup of tea.) Or, I´m finally losing my marbles.
Anyways- despite being worried about the loss of my memory I was thrilled I had something new to read. I prepared myself to be blown away.
I really need to stop getting my hopes up. Or I need to do some massive brain-training so I can remember shit.
There came a moment when I wanted to DNF this book. `Conquer Your Love` by J. C. Reed wasn´t for me at all. Or, maybe it would have been if it had been properly edited.
Alot of people don´t realize the importance of having an editor look over a story before it hits the market.
Plot holes, misspellings, poor character development… those are the things I noticed while reading `Conquer Your Love` and I´m not even a professional editor ( I´m not any type of editor, Lol. ) It says alot when a simple reader can pick out faults in a story. Nevertheless- I saw the idea the author had and I still didn´t like it much.
It was a struggle to get through yet I managed to finish.
There was too much drama, too much eyebrow raising from my end and way too many reading breaks.
Would I re-read `Conquer Your Love` ? Nope.
Would I recommend this book? Without wanting to ruin the author…. I´d say no. I wouldn´t recommend this one to anyone who´s looking for something with more depth.
STILL- I can see why alot of people would love this read. Totally weird, right?
The Cover – 1 star ( Nope. Lots of nopes. Tribal tattoos went out of style years ago. I´ve also seen my fair share of naked bods on book covers. They´re not too appealing.)
The Story – 2 stars ( Despite the poor editing I think I´ve had my fill on these stories. Too much of the non-important and far too less of the stuff that actually mattered )
The Characters – 2 stars ( Exhausting, to say the least. )
My emotional state after finishing this read – utterly pooped out.
I´m giving `Conquer Your Love` ( Surrender Your Love #2 ), by J. C. Reed, 2 out of 5 stars.
